Ian Thorpe No

All those sorry, Councilor Thorp. Thank you, your worship Now I'll speak very briefly. And I'm speaking to say reluctantly, that I cannot support this because of the discussion we had earlier this evening, which raised through this amendment, our tax assessment from 6.4% to 7.2%. . And I'll point out that this change was not a recommendation from our award winning finance department. So I appreciate all their work and I support them. But I'm not going to support this amendment. Thank you.

Pre. No, thank you. Your worship and again the award winning. You know, I I just I know I know what you're gonna say Your worship, so I'm gonna I'm just going to put the words out there. I certainly, um said before I was elected I've never voted in my 12 years of government in the past and ever voted for anything over 3% tax increase, and I just assumed it was going to be just as easy here and I have to say about our finance department you have done Such an excellent job to educate me on the real problems that this city is facing on an ongoing basis, , and I think, , um You know, I was absolutely, um Blind to what the issues are particularly with inflation and everything that's going on. And the excellent management of the of the money here is is very good. Having said that so I could get my head around. All right, I'll go to 5%. And then when it came in at 6.2, I thought, Lord, but, you know, I understand where they're coming from. Maybe I can support that. . And then we agreed to up by 1%. Not a chance, not a chance. You know, in this day and age of inflation for families, rising interest rates, the cost of food and shelter and It. I you know, I don't know how people feel their cars with Gas or electricity to keep them going. If they're so inclined, you know, it's it's a tough go, but there's no way I'm going to support this. . Given this scenario.
