Councillor Eastmure Motion re: Draft Transit Oriented Development Along the Island Corridor

Motion
That Council, as part of City Plan Review, direct Staff to seek opportunities and create policies that support and advance planning of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) centres, including Country Club and Woodgrove, in a way that provides clear connection to the Island Corridor, which may be used for corridor -related transit in the future.

Thank you. We're doing this review right now. We're working on planning these transit oriented development centers. We always say Nanimo is long and narrow, and the one thing. That can really help serve, that is, using the island corridor for whatever that type of transit may look like in the future, whether it's a train or. A train bus hybrid or. Just. An active transportation corridor, so this really will help. Us plan ahead so that we're ready to make those connections in the future.
Does not include the use of rail. Certainly it would support. the continued ability to use the rail And that's the highest and I think potentially best use for. The rail corridor. But open to flexibility.

Ian Thorpe Yes

Thank you. Thank you. Councilor Thorpe. Thank you, your worship. Through you. If I may, I'd like to just. Clarify with councilor East Muir? Because I think I just heard her answer my question, but I want to be sure. In my mind. The island corridor. Should be used primarily. Ideally for. Rail, and I will not support anything that precludes that focus. Now I'm hearing you say, this does not preclude that. So I just like to be assured.
