a matter of months, and if we are going to. Entertain things like that, where there's a type of. Type of public use. That's associated with recreation, that we need to have a policy in place that defines the parameters in which a decision like this gets made. So I will vote knowing it's going to be quite unpopular for some, that neighborhood relief. For a couple of individuals in particular I think is important. Until that longer term fixes. But I think we're at the point, and I'm not going to make a motion of it, but I'll leave it in the hands. Of your warship to exercise your mayor powers. If you choose with staff that we have something that comes forward and a policy in place for. How we deal with requests like this and the type of parameters around that. Thank you. Thank you very much,
Councilor Armstrong and councilor Prino. Yeah, I'll be speaking. In favor of the two. I think it's a good compromise. I don't think there's anybody, and I'm speaking to the pickleball people that I know. We'll get emails from that would want to live by that. Starting at 630 in the morning going right up till eight or nine. Constant, constant. These people never can enjoy the quiet of their own properties. There's. Issues around health and illness. So I was on the council that put those there and that's. A decision I regret, because I think it had a huge consequences for the neighborhood, and I hope that we can fix it sooner than later. And that's one of the reasons why we did move to build eight more pickleball courts, so I think it does strike a balance. There's going to be people upset both sides, but it's a balance. Thank you. Thank you very much, council Prinum.
the city wasn't working on getting courts in other places. How shall I say, are more suitable to people enjoying or having the quiet enjoyment of their own. Homes. I perhaps might vote differently, but in the circumstances. Giving the neighborhood a break on a couple of days on Easter weekend. I don't think is unreasonable because. It's probably fair to say they're going to face with the significant improvement in climate in our community in terms of warm weather. They're going to see. A long and steady interruption of their quiet enjoyment for many months through this spring and summer and into the fall again until we can provide alternate places for pickleball to be played. It is a very popular sport, and I acknowledge that, and I'm glad to see so many people out getting their athletic activity. But every once in a while, you need to consider. That. These were originally tennis courts not nearly used in the same way, and it was a decision of the city to allow. Pickleball to be played there, and I
And Eastmere. Thank you, worship. Speaking in opposition to this, I agree with Councilor Brown. I think this is a tricky precedent to set. We have done this before, and we did that in December, and I think those courts were utilized a lot less than. This council could move to remove those courts, that might be the appropriate action. Rather than entertaining letters. To close them for weekends. I'm in opposition. Thank you. Thank you very much, Councilor Ishmir.
Thank you. I think this is a hard one, given that we are kind of making a decision. On the fly here, following up on a precedent we already set over Christmas. To give people a little bit of peace and quiet over those few stat holidays that they get. To be home with their families. And for me, I'm in support of this because it's just two days and. It's not like there aren't other pickleball courts that people can go. Play at. Bevin courts are also free and available just up the road. There's also courts at departure Bay. So given that. I think this is a reasonable thing, but we do need to and will be having the conversation. That councilor Hemmens talked about. And this council also did support adding new courts to Bebin to facilitate
